Bursitis

Between our joints, we have some sacs that are filled with fluids, and those sacs are called bursa. These bursae surround areas where your muscles, tendons and skin meet the bones to reduce friction from movement and cause damage to any of the tissue.

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fascia is a band of connective tissue that is located in the lower part of the foot, on the sole, running from the heel to the ball of the foot. This band of tissue generally helps keeping the bones and joints in place, or in their position, and makes it possible for us to push off the ground.

Calluses

Calluses are dead skin build-up around and on your toes, joints, heels and the bottom of your feet. These dead skin build-ups are normally occurring and produced by your own body to protect the ball of the foot and your heels, which are usually formed in areas of your feet that constantly are exposed to repetitive friction.

Ankle Injuries

Ankle injuries are very common in the general population, not necessarily something that only happens to athletes or other people involved with sport. Ankle pain caused by traumatic injuries is almost always caused by ankle sprains. The term for “sprain” is used to describe the damage or injury of a ligament.

Achilles Tendinopathy

The tendon which runs along the back of your lower leg, down to the heel, is called the achilles tendon. When that band of tissue is injured, inflamed or degenerates, the condition is called Achilles Tendinopathy.

Children’s Podiatry

Foot and ankle problems in children can very easily go unnoticed. Signs and symptoms can often be subtle, parents unaware of anything wrong and of course children themselves are sometimes unable to speak or express themselves.

Ankle injuries are extremely common. The most common ankle injury is a sprained ankle, but ankle pain can have numerous sources.

Podiatrists are experts on problems with the feet and ankles, and some specialise further in problems caused by arthritis and related conditions. Arthritis can be disruptive and disconcerting. The pain and stiffness can make it difficult to perform the daily tasks most people take for granted.

Blisters are a small pocket of fluid in the upper layers of skin caused by pulling and tugging on the skin from an external cause. This can be from your socks, shoes, moisture or even from ill-placed tape.

Between each metatarsal bone in our feet we have a nerve. Sometimes, when these nerves pass through the metatarsal bones between the ball of the foot, it can get pinched or damaged by a shearing force that occurs during pronation. This can happen most often between the second and third toes, or third and fourth.
